The Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife has made changes to their former Zebra muscle
decontamination requirements. The new 2008 Aquatic Invasive Species
rules require that any anglers’ “boat or trailer that has been in physical
contact with any body of water outside
Washington State
within the last 30 days preceding a contest” must be decontaminated. This is a
change from last year when decontamination was required only if you had been
east of the continental divide.
You will be
required to sign the
Aquatic Invasive Species Decontamination Statement which asks "Has your
boat, trailer, engine, or any water containers that you will use during this
fishing contest been in physical contact with any waters outside of Washington
State in the last 30 days?"
If you answer "YES" to this questions, you must
complete an Aquatic Invasive Species Decontamination Report
and your boat will be
inspected by the tournament director before you can participate.
Decontamination should be completed before any prefishing occurs.
